District Ontario Webinar - Mid Fermentation Harvest and Hops

When:  Jan 26, 2022 from 12:00 to 13:00 (ET)
Associated with  District Ontario

District Ontario has cancelled the Ontario Technical Conference originally slated for January 26-28 2022.

So instead we are bringing back our popular webinar series!

Join us for our first MBAA District Ontario Webinar of 2022 with a great talk from Jessica Young.

Abstract:

New England IPAs, hazies, or NEIPAs are delicious, but expensive and give us all quite the headache. I have created a method to help mitigate some of the costs associated with this style and enable hop creep to coincide with fermentation. This allows for dextrins to be cleaved during fermentation rather than in packaged products. My talk will cover an introduction to hop creep, why dry hopping mid-fermentation can be helpful, and ultimately how to harvest yeast before dry hopping in mid-fermentation.

About Jessica Young:

Jessica Young earned her undergraduate degree in Cell and Molecular Biology before learning to brew outside of Asheville, North Carolina. In 2017 she accepted a brewer position in Nashville, TN at Bearded Iris Brewing. She quickly rose through the ranks to become Cellar, Quality, and Sensory Manager, where she developed this method. She has been featured on the MBAA podcast twice and published this method in the Technical Quarterly (Volume 58, no.2). She is now working on her Master’s degree in Food Science with a brewing focus at the University of California, Davis. She enjoys breaking down complex ideas into digestible bites and solving problems, ideally sitting outside with a Czech pilsner and her English lab, Billie.
