11:00 Presentation: Fernando Jimenez (Alfa Laval) Topic:  Centrifuge

Fernando Jimenez is the Global Business Manager Brewery and Beverages at ALFA LAVAL, a world-class innovator and supplier of centrifuge technologies to Brewery, Life Science, Dairy, Marine, and other markets since 1883. Fernando has been with Alfa Laval since 1997 holding roles as Product Engineer, Startup/Commissioning Agent, and positions in Global Sales and Technical Support. In his current role, Fernando is primarily focused on business development, supporting the ALFA LAVAL sales force worldwide by working closely with major global accounts improving their performance and optimizing their processes. After being involved in the development of ALFA LAVAL’s patented and innovative Bottom-feed, Fully-Hermetic Separators, he began work with ALFA LAVAL Separation Headquarters in Tumba, Sweden as Global Business Manager Brewery and Beverages.  Fernando is currently based in the United States supporting centrifuge applications within the fast-growing craft brewing industry. In his free time, he enjoys football (soccer), tennis, and spending time with his family.

1:30 pm Presentation: Dirk Loeffler (Loeffler Chemicals) Topic: Chemical Safety

Bio:
Dirk Loeffler is the technical director of Loeffler Chemical Corporation, a chemical company specializing in sanitation products and chemical automation for breweries with corporate offices in Atlanta, GA. In his position, Dirk continuously develops and implements new products, product applications, and cleaning technologies. Born and raised in Cologne, Germany, Dirk came to the United States in 1992 to lay the groundwork for the U.S. operations of Loeffler, resulting in the incorporation of Loeffler Chemical Corporation in 1994. Dirk graduated with a business degree in Germany. After his military service, he worked several years for Chemische Fabrik Kalk in Cologne before joining the family business, where he worked in technical sales and research and development. Dirk lives in Atlanta, GA, with his wife Alexis and their twin boys, Kai and Sebastian, and their dog, Elvis. He has been an active member of MBAA since 1993 and currently serves as the membership chair for the District Mid-South. Dirk is also an active member of the Brewers Association and the American Society of Brewing Chemists.

2:30 Presentation: Ryan Schmiege (Deschutes Brewery) Topic: Distillery Washes

Bio:

Ryan Schmiege is an Assistant Brewmaster and co-owner at Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon. He holds an Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, a post graduate diploma in Brewing and Distillation from Heriot Watt University and has been a professional member of MBAA for over a decade. Through his 13 year career with Deschutes he has been involved with every aspect of the brewing process including two years running the brewing operations of their Portland Pub and several years managing barrel operations. His current focus is on projects within and on the fringes of brewing with an aim to continually improve the extraordinary experiences of Deschutes’ fans, while growing and strengthening the brand. During his personal time he enjoys canoeing, camping and most anything that gets him into the woods and mountains of the Pacific Northwest.
