District Immediate Past President Job Responsibilities

Each District of the Master Brewers Association of the Americas (“MBAA”) is required to have a minimum of three officers: a Board of Governors Representative, President, and Treasurer as set forth in the District’s Bylaws. This document outlines the primary responsibilities of the District Immediate Past President.

Qualifications

As outlined in the MBAA Bylaws, the District Immediate Past President:

·       Must be a current member of MBAA. Student members are not eligible for this position.

·       As a representative of MBAA, the District Immediate Past President must lead by example and abide by the Master Brewers Code of Professional Conduct. Infractions will be investigated according to the investigation process described in the Code of Professional Conduct.

·       Must annually sign the whistleblowers and conflict of interest policies.

While the District Immediate Past President may choose to hold committee chairs and additional positions at their discretion, the Immediate Past President shall maintain one vote to abide with the one person, one vote rule set forth by National.

The Immediate Past President is an ex-officio officer who served as President during the preceding term. 

Due to experience gained from the office, the Past President is a valuable contributor to the issues faced by the Executive Board.  If he or she is unable to serve for any reason, the office shall be filled by the most recent active and available Past President. 

Responsibilities

  • Attend most District meetings.  Attendance is critical to the functions of the District, as District succession planning should be considered based on active participation of current membership.
  • Serve as a member of the Board
  • Advise the President on all matters wherein the President seeks his or her advice
  • The Immediate Past President is the de facto Nominating Chair.  He or she will work on succession and be responsible for nomination of the next year's slate of officers.
  • Attend most District meetings.  Attendance is critical to the functions of the District, as District succession planning should be considered based on active participation of current membership.
