District Pittsburgh is excited to welcome Jos Haeck, malt master for The Swaen malting Company. Mr. Haeck will be delivering his presentation entitled "Gelatinization profiles and the influence on flavor with the addition of specialty malt".
Jos graduated as Brewing Engineer from Belgian's most famous Brewing College in Ghent, Belgium and started in the malting industry in 1979 - today he has over 40 years experience in malting. He is the former Managing Director of malting Kloosterzande and then joined the brewing team for SAB Miller. In 2013, together with the de Groen family, initiated The Swaen and constructed a new specialty malthouse (commissioned in 2014).
Today Jos is the Malt Master for The Swaen, as well as offers education to personnel and technical assistance to brewers. He is the Non-executive Director of the National Institute for Beer, Malt and Barley of Netherlands and the Chairman of Malting Barely Breeder Committee. The Swaen was awarded the 2019 Brewing Supply Gold Medal at the 10th Annual World Barley Malt and Beer Conference.
