Looking for some advice on the venting of a mash tun and whirlpool.
We have our kettle with a steam-condenser, but the MT/LT and WP are just open at top with a 10" diameter stainless steel decorative stack that sits on top. The first question I have is how necessary is it to have the mash tun and whirlpool vented? I don't want the steam from these vessels to be escaping into the brewhouse and creating mold issues on the ceiling and walls. But I have seen mash vessels with no stack at all, so would adding a stainless-steel dome or plate to the stack port be a viable option? (Same question for the whirlpool)
Venting is a possibility, but there are some questions about this as well:
- Could the MT/LT and WP share the same vent line outdoors? I can't think of any downside to a shared line.
- What size diameter should the stacks be?
- What material is appropriate for the vent stacks?
Thank you for any input!
