Wondering if anyone has a supplier recommendation for either 1.5" or 2" Tri-Clamp (TC) Adjustable Spunding Valves, that are rated for the following Fermenter sizes:

    120hL, 240hL, 360hL

Specific Mechanical is in Victoria and they have adjustable spunding vales that can be attached via TC. I don't know if they have spunding valves rated for tanks of those sizes, but I assume they do.

We got some 1.5" ones from SS Brewtech.  They work.

All spunding values should be adjustable; don't buy one that isn't.  And, the size of the tank is irrelevant; use a blow-off tube during the bulk of fermentation and switch to the spunding valve a few points before FG, depending on the carbonation level desired (see krausening calcs).

morebeer.com and glaciertanks.com both sell adjustable spunding valves with 1.5" TCs.

Todd, I have purchased many of these over the years with varying results in quality, accuracy and reliability (not to mention serviceability and repairability).  I believe the best are either Alpha-Laval or Barby+Kuhner.  However, these can run into the thousands of dollars.

For more budget oriented results, my favorite is by BrewTools.  I believe that you can buy them directly from their website brewtools.us They have worked reliably, accurately and you can actually get the correct spare parts for them when needed (all of the polycarbonate "jars" on these things can be easily cracked by careless handling).  These units come with the regulator assembly and a tri-clamp fitting out the bottom.  It is up to you to add a tee fitting and gauge and valve in whatever configuration you like.

Some of the other brands I have used have 1/4" pipe thread pressure gauges of questionable quality and are already set up with a 90 degree bend in their assembly.  I prefer to put all of that together with all tri-clamp parts so they are more easily cleaned, inspected configured to your needs.  It also allows you to use high quality pressure gauges of your choice.

Depending on what point in fermentation you begin your spunding, these 1.5" unnits may not be high enough flow for you.  Then about the only thing you can do is put two in parallel or go with the larger versions offered by companies like Alfa-Laval.

    Cheers!

    Todd

I'd try IDD in Moorpark California. They have a division in China that now makes all types of fittings. Saw their adjustable Spundapparat at the CBC. I'd also check out Barby+Keuhner (German) as well as Handtmann. They have well respected spudapparat - but you'll pay more due to them being made in Germany. I expect you could order from DME or Specific Mechanical and since they can import directly into Canada you won't have the 25% Trump tax on Chinese imports that would be added to any item being imported into the US.

    Cheers,

    Chris
