  • 1.  Supradisc II polishing filters

We are looking into the use of the supradisc Ii filters for polishing some of our beers.  I was hoping someone could share the life they get from their filters?  We are thinking of 2x16 in modules.
I was also hoping someone could share their cleaning process.  Thanks in advance

    Hey Scott,

I've used Supradisc lenticular pads for both polishing and primary filtration and have had good experience with them. For polishing we run directly out of the centrifuge, through the filter, to the brite. This set up can be challenging to manage to balance diff. pressure, but it saves on having a surge tank. We run a 4 x 16 set up and typically see ~4,000bbl throughput before our DP is consistently >7psi necessitating a change. This is really dependent on the yeast load coming out of our primary filter/fuge - ours is pretty minimal. When I ran these as a primary filter we would only get about 500bbl through before a changeout.

Our daily procedure is only hot water for regeneration and heat sanitation per Pall's recommendation. We see regular enough throughput that we do not pack with a storage solution. Every so often we will do a caustic cycle to extend the life and while "technically" not recommended by Pall they have also include an addendum for how to do this in the product manual. We recently did this to get a little extra life out of our pads due to delays in freight. It is a pretty simple 1% caustic solution loop. We have not attributed any micro issues to our lenticular.

Over years of running these, I generally quite like them. They work best when they have a consistent in-feed and the operators now to watch their inlet and outlet pressures. Happy to share some documentation and any other details.
