The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) released their acreage and grain stocks reports today, which revealed a slight uptick in acreage over 2024, with stocks further depleted.

Acreage - Producers seeded 2.42 million acres of barley for the 2025 crop year, up 2 percent from the previous year. In Montana, the largest barley-acreage state, acreage is expected to decrease by 16 percent from last year.
Stocks - Barley in all positions on June 1, 2025 totaled 69.5 million bushels, down 11 percent from June 1, 2024. On-farm stocks are estimated at 20.9 million bushels, 28 percent below a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 48.6 million bushels, are 2 percent below June 1, 2024. The March - May 2025 indicated disappearance is 33.4 million bushels, slightly below the same period a year earlier.
