I just got word that Terese Barta is firing up one of her microbiology workshops later this month. I took her course at UW-Stevens Point in 2015, and it was fantastic. Here are the details:
A Microbiology for Brewers workshop will be held Tuesday, August 29 at O'so Brewery in Plover, WI. This one-day class is designed to give brewers hands-on experience with different methods to test for and identify spoilage microbes. The course will also cover basic microscope use, staining, and use of the hemocytometer for counting yeast. Instructor is Terese Barta, Ph.D., who has offered a two-day Micro for Brewers workshop at UW-Stevens Point for many years. Whether you have a lab or not, this workshop provides tools that can be implemented into a quality assurance program. No prior experience necessary. This course is for commercial craft brewers who are getting more involved in microbiological aspects of quality control. The workshop will run 9 am to 5 pm with lunch included at the taphouse. Cost is $150, and includes all materials and procedures manual. For registration information, contact Terese Barta at bartabrewingservices@gmail.com. Seats are limited to 10 hands-on participants to allow for personalized attention to each participant.
