    Hello all,

I am looking for a lab for sequence identification of bacterial/fungus isolates. I remember stumbling across a link in the last few months of a lab that does sequencing identification at a reasonable price. It was like $40 a sample for 16S on isolated colonies. I thought it was an Ask the Brewmasters post but I cannot find the link (stupidly forgot to bookmark it). It may have been in a webinar, poster, or ASBC source.

    Thanks,

We use MIDI labs, who recently became part of Biolog:

They are affordable, and we have been happy with their service.

I have used genewiz in the past, affordable and quick.

Most yeast labs will offer something like this. I am pretty sure Bootleg Biology does. Not sure on prices.

Look into Genewiz (now Azenta Life Sciences) for 16S (bacterial) and ITS (fungal) sequencing. It is very affordable (I think $18/samples) and pretty straightforward. You can send a plate with isolated colonies and they will prepare the DNA, PCR and sanger sequence. For 16S they will provide analysis and a predicted bacterial species from the 16S sequence. For ITS, you can run a blast on the sequencing results with NCBI and that will get you a good idea of the fungal species.

Our laboratory used to be next door to Eton Bio here in Research Triangle Park, NC. They are a small, high-powered team with fast, reliable service.
