JVNW parts needed

    Hello all,
We have some old JVNW brite tanks and keep having difficulty finding parts.
We've used ICC-NW parts store, but they are pretty much non-responsive.
We are looking for Knuckle Block assemblies as these wear out pretty regularly.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hi Madison,

If the wear item on those knuckle blocks is the brass all-thread, I seem to remember being able to order the threaded brass from McMaster-Carr and replacing it. Seems like it might have been secured by a roll pin? All you have to do is figure out the thread configuration

    Hi Madison,

If the brass threaded rod is the issue with the knuckle block, those can be replaced.  We have quite a few JVNW tanks, and the brass threaded rod is an easy replacement.  You can get threaded brass rod from McMaster Carr part number 98853A036.   There is a small stainless cross pin that holds this threaded rod in place, you just knock out the pin and unthread the rod out of the stainless block.  It's a pretty easy replacement.   I have seen on some of the JVNW blocks where they've polished the stainless block so well that you can't see the cross pin, but it is there.  You might have to warm it up with a torch to have the pin show up, it's about a 1/4 inch stainless pin.

Hope that helps, and much cheaper than buying the entire assembly every time.

We've been dealing with awful communication and delayed order fulfillment from ICC since February. We finally received our order after hundreds of calls, voicemails, emails, an Uber Eats delivery, and even a phone call to the Canby Chamber of Commerce.

Long story short, ICC-NW is going out of business. Word is that a handful of parts department people from ICC are starting their own venture in September 2025. Once I hear they are up and running I'll be happy to share more info.

If you want more info on my ICC-NW saga, feel free to reach out to me directly.

I have recently started at a Brewery with a cellar of mostly JVNW vessels. 2  FV manways have issues sealing, and I am concerned that the issue is the door plate itself...and now that I may not be able to get a replacement from ICC. Anyone have suggestions? I have also failed to make contact with ICC over the last few weeks.

    Thank you

ICC-NW is officially closed. My (former) ICC-NW contact stated that they were not taking any new orders this last week and only fulfilling existing orders.

The group that will be starting up their own parts supply business should have things running early September. It will have parts for JV/ICC-NW systems.

They don't have all of their ducks in a row to start taking orders just yet. I will respond to this thread with more info as I get it.
If you reached out to me directly, I will update you directly too.

    Cheers,

    Justin

    Hey Weston,

We've had luck purchasing from BreweryGaskets.com  for our JV manways

Or you can try the ol' 50 cent brewing solution: two quarters where the gasket leaks on the front of the door.

I had good luck with the red silicone JVNW shadowless manway gaskets from https://www.brewerygaskets.com/

    Weston,

Are these the older Flat plate ~1/2" thick manway doors or the newer ones with a bubble to the inside? I would think the older ones would be pretty easy to have fabricated. Do you see significant gaps when you pull a door shut against the manway without a gasket in place? JV used to carry two different materials of Gasket too. One was a very soft silicone (I believe) that was light gray in color. The other was a dark grey/black which I think was EPDM. The EPDM ones were harder to get a seal on due to being a stiffer material. Maybe check brewerygaskets.com?

    Hey Steve,

These are the older flat plates (16x22). I'm new to this manufacturer, but you are saying I need to close the manway with no gasket and look for gaps? Just large gaps or are any gaps a concern?

    Thank you for the help!

    Weston,

That's a good question, and I don't really have a good answer to precisely how large a gap should be acceptable. However, closing the door with no gasket in place seems like a good starting point in diagnosing a problem. If there are no significant gaps (I would think anything thicker than a dime?) then the manway probably isn't the issue. If there are gaps, the next step would be to check the door plate with a straight edge to see if it is a gap caused by the plate having deformed or is the problem lies with the seating surface the plate seals against. The latter seems highly unlikely to have deformed, just due to the nature of the construction, but this is a starting point. I just left a message with a brewery that has one of those manways and asked if he'd check on how flat the door fits against the seat next time he has one empty.

    Weston,

I just got someone to check one of those Manways (Shout-out to MBAA member Tommy Kelley at Free State Brewery!). He is not having any issues with leakage and he said that fully closed and hand tight, with no gasket, his plate manway door fits pretty flat against the seat, with the exception of about a penny thickness gap in the upper corner opposite the hinge. So maybe that gives you a ballpark for tolerance?

    Weston,

Years ago when JVNW was still in their prime, I had a similar issue with their manways. Their engineer told me to take the manway off and drop it from chest high curved side down onto thin carpet or cardboard to prevent scratching. He said to try it few times if needed. This would put the "spring" back in the manway and help it seal again. We still needed a new gasket but there was a noticeable reduction in the gap and we didn't need to replace the door. Depending on the age it might not work, but worth a shot since its cheap and easy to do.

    Hi Weston,

Steve has had some good suggestions on checking door clearances, I wanted to add one more.  When you close the door to check the gap on the door, see how much brass thread is left behind the locking nut on the door that is visible.  With no gasket on the door you should still have about 1/4 inch of visible brass thread.  I've had a few doors where our brewers tightened the locking nut so tight that it either bent the door plate outward, or it bent the 1 inch cross bars that lock against the tank manway so badly that the locking nut would bottom out on the brass thread and the door couldn't be tightened any further and would still leak.  That took me a bit to figure out when our doors had some leaks, I would have never guessed that these parts could be bent so easily but it can happen.   If you don't find anything there, take the locking nut all the way off and see if you are missing some threads as the brass threaded rod can start crumbling away and the locking nut will seem tight but its because it can't tighten down any further with no threads
