  • 1.  Ionized air into cans

    Hi everyone. 
    I've heard that some people uses ionized air to "rinse" their cans instead of clean water. I feel this is a good solution to lower  oxygen pick-up by the residual water left in cans. 
    Question:
    • What pressure do you push into cans considering that most small equipement of ionized air can go from 0 to 60 psi?
    • Does someone has measured an optimal CFM or flow?
    • Considering that printed cans are made by changing in a way the polarity of the can for the paint to stick to the cans, is there an impact of using ionized air into the can that could have the pain comming of the cans in some places?

    Hi Dominic,

    We use an ionized air rinser here. We supply clean, dry, sterile filtered air to the unit and it is then reduced to 30 psi. I'm not sure about the cfm used. The unit has a vacuum generator which removes and particulates after the air rinse. We have not seen any impact on cans in terms of internal or external coating degredation.

    Our unit is from Carleton Helical Technologies. They may be able to answer your questions better than I have!
