    We are pleased to announce the slate of candidates for Secretary of District Texas MBAA.  Voting is set to begin on June 26th and run through July 5. Be on the lookout for ballots going out next Monday. Please see candidates and bios below.

    Daniel Anderson

    Originally from San Diego, I relocated out to Austin TX to work for Zilker Brewing Company in 2021, where I am currently the Head Brewer. I got started brewing professionally at the Gordon Biersch Brewery in San Diego making Reinheitsgebot bound lagers. I was there from 2012 to 2017 when I took over the Head Brewer role at Rock Bottom Brewery in La Jolla, Ca. In 2020 I started with a restaurant group called Puesto, opening their Mexican-lager-centric brewpub, Puesto Cerveceria, until making the move to Austin. I have an IBD Diploma in Brewing as well as Certified Cicerone and BJCP Certified ranks. I keep an active presence in competition judging, including the GABF, World Beer Cup and National Homebrew Competition. I'm fan of all beer styles if they are done well, but given my roots I have a strong preference for German lagers and clear IPAs. Outside of beer I like to travel with my wife Cait, play guitar, ride bikes, and go to rock shows. I am inspired by the MBAA and all that it does and am looking to further my presence within the organization. 

    Hayden Hyde

    I began brewing professionally in 2013, and joined District Texas in 2015. In the last eight years I've been fortunate to attend most of the in-person and virtual meetings, meet countless colleagues who've become friends, and learn so very much about our industry. The MBAA has been crucial in my professional development by awarding me two District Scholarships, one for the Brewing & Malting Science and another for the Brewery Maintenance Systems courses. I'm extremely impressed with all the hard work our current and previous Board Members have put into running a great district and organizing top-notch technical presentations at our meetings. If elected to the position of Secretary, I look forward to the opportunity to give back to the District I have received so much from.

    James "Huggy Bear" Wolfe

    James "Huggy Bear" Wolfe is seeking the MBAA District Texas Secretary position. James has been a member of MBAA since the start of his professional brewing career, attending his first summer meeting at Kerrville in 2012, and participating on the technical committee. He completed the Brewing and Malting Science course in 2020 after receiving a district scholarship, and understands the importance of education and fellowship through the MBAA. He has a passion for quality beer, always learning, improving, and sharing knowledge with fellow brewers.

    James first had an engineering career with the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station human spaceflight programs. After many years homebrewing, educating, and involving himself in the local small brewery scene, he changed careers, from rockets to his passion for beer. He started as a brewer for No Label Brewing in Katy, TX. And after one year he was promoted to head brewer, brewing and leading the beer production team, while the brewery was undergoing rapid growth,. After five years he moved over to Southern Star Brewing in Conroe, TX, furthering his knowledge of quality, consistency, and large batch brewing. In March of 2020 he opened a new brewpub and helped plan, design, buildout, brew and operate Local Group Brewing in Houston, TX. James is currently the head brewer for Holler Brewing in Houston, TX. In his spare time, he watches movies and tv with his wife and their cat, visits new breweries, plays silly video games, and sits in on the occasional poker game.

    James "Huggy Bear" Wolfe received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from Arizona State University Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Russian Language.
