What is the reason behind the angled thermowell in the fermentor cone? (Example: Premier stainless steel tanks) Usually the shell thermowells are slightly tilted (10 Degrees) towards the bottom.

Attaching picture for reference. Check T1 and T2.

    Thanks

    Hi Dheeraj,

From what I've heard, having an angle on thermowell probes help them wash off better during CIP, although not every tank manufacturer does it.  Your side thermowell has that feature with the slight downward angle.  In the cone, welding the thermocouple perpendicular to the tank cone is much easier for the welder and it naturally gives a good angle to help the thermocouple wash off during CIP.   It's possible they had other reasons such as keeping above the yeast at the bottom of the tank, but you'd have to ask the manufacturer

Is there any relation between heating and cooling zones in temperature inversion/convection points for the placement of thermowells? As shown in the attached picture I think there is a relationship between placement of thermowells and inversion points.

    Thanks
