  • 1.  Compressor For (Gossling) Canning Line

    Posted 02-07-2025 16:26

    Hello Everyone,

I am reaching out because we just acquired a V.1 Wild Goos Gossling canning line. We know we need to upgrade our compressor situation, but I was looking for anyone who might have some experience running one of these lines and how they like their compressor. Maybe some do's and don'ts from experience. We don't want to go too big on the compressor. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers!

    Hey Chris,

I've had one for about 3.5 years and I've had overall good experiences with it. My compressor is an Atlas Copco SF6 with a 250 liter tank which is certainly overkill. We found a good deal on it used. It also supplies our labeller (and will supply our new brewhouse and wort aeration in the near future).

I can't remember the specs nor requirements off the top of my head. Basically we run the compressor at 9.5 bars and then have the pressure reduced to roughly 6 bar for the Gosling. When we first started canning our compressor was too small and was running nearly non-stop. The pressure would drop which would create inconsistent filling. Just make sure you're getting clean air into the unit from an oil free compressor, ideally dehumidified.

As for overall info about the machine :

The weak spot is the can slide unit. Be sure to keep the can slide rails lubricated and don't neglect the bearing at the end of the rails. If this stuff gets dirty or dry, you'll struggle with a CMMO motor warning. You'll also see this warning if you have a jam or if the unit gets out of sync. Put it in manual mode and "home" the slide before restarting.

I've also had some recent difficulties with the wifi (Anybus Bolt) unit for the tablet/computer control. Wild Goose has recommended that I use an ethernet to avoid this problem. I was able to update the firmware for the Anybus but it's a bit unreliable for me.

Just to let you know, there is a pretty useful facebook group for Gosling users. It is moderated by some of the tech staff at Wild Goose and is a great place for troubleshooting and whatnot.

Hi Chris, we've been using a 60 gallon husky compressor into an inline filter, and through a Harbor Freight air dryer. it works great for us and was relatively easy on the budget. Definitely get on the facebook user group that Thomas suggested regarding the Gosling. Have fun!
