The January 2025 meeting of your Board of Governors was held on January 21, 2025.
President's Report
President Molly Browning of Lallemand called the meeting to order and provided a memoriam to three members: Vincent Bavisotto, District Milwaukee since 1958, Kathleen Russel of District Western NY since 1977 and Eric Merrell of District Rocky Mountain since 2016.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee presented an updated Master Brewers core ideolog, values and strategic goals.
Melanie Bristor provided a robust report on the Association's educational programming.
- There is a new Packaging Light course for MBAA - this is an introductory course that would prepare members for the hybrid Short Course.
- The success of the course will determine if the other courses would come in a "light" format.
- There is a new Basic Brewery Calculations Course coming in April.
- There is a new Safety Series available with MBAA as well.
- The hybrid Short Course for Brewery Packaging will return in 2026.
District Update
There was question as to whether or not District Western Canada had been active. They are in fact active and the BOG was pleased to receive an update from them!
Code of Conduct at District Meetings
This was a reminder to Districts that all attendees should agree to the Code of Conduct, including guests and walk-ins. A reminder that any member who brings a guest is accountable for their guest.
Districts should make sure to have the Code of Conduct posted at the meeting. District St. Louis received a shoutout for our recent meeting, with the Code of Conduct posted in the business meeting slide deck as well as posted by at the hospitality station.
Treasurer's Report
Marcus Powers presented a budget to the BOG, which had already been reviewed by the Treasurers, Finance Committee, and the Executive Committee. It was approved by the Executive Comittee on Dec 10, 2024 and by the BOG at this meeting.
Marcus presented the various cuts the Executive Committee agreed to, some of which were already discussed in the meeting.
Revenue is projected at $1,118,766, while expenses would run at $1,156,684, putting the association at a $37,918 deficit this year.
The organization has a strong financial position with $5.6 million in net assets.
Nominating Committee
Immediate Past President Lauren Torres of Anton Paar made the Call for Nominations.
Please consider a fellow member for the Award of Honor, Award of Merit or the Distinguished Life Service Award.
Nominations close March 20, 2025.
Approval of Minutes
Approval of minutes from May 2021 was also unanimous, with a few minor amendments.
