District St. Louis,
The January meeting of your Board of Governors was held on January 16th.
President Lauren Torres of Anton Paar called the meeting to order and provided a memoriam to four members, including District St. Louis' Charlie Link.
Strategic Priorities
There are four strategic priorities for 2024:
- What should governance look like
- District Health
- Delivering programs for industry value & revenue
- Assessing and exploring partnerships.
MBAA's educational priorities for 2024 include:
- Sustainability
- Brewing process challenges
- Quality
Please watch your inboxes this spring for the 2025 Education Priorities. The organization gathers its priorities through the Districts, with membership voting on their top priorities, with the BOG collectively approving the top priorities.
Tech Now is live on the MBAA website. Thank you to the Tech Now Task Force (now dissolved) for your hard work!
Financial Report
Budget - Treasurer Marcus Powers of Zipline Brewing Co provided us a financial report and the budget was approved by the Board of Governors.
Finance Committee - Riley Seitz of BevSource has been confirmed as the newest member of the Finance Committee. She will serve a 3-year appointed term.
Membership - Our overall membership, per Marcus, is closer to 4,020 at EOY 2023. We are still a strong organization, as the peak number of 5000 in early 2020 was reflective of the craft boom.
World Brewing Congress 2024
This collaborative event is to be held in Minneapolis from Aug 17-20, 2024. Abstract submissions & workshops open Jan 23, and we expect some entry level presentations as well.
District Health
Innovation Fund - Up to $25,000 has been allocated for 2024. The call for applications starts next week and closes March 18. This year we are looking for more promotion to general membership. The funds are to be made available to any member, Committee or District as approved by the Executive Committee, so long as the use of funds conform to the stated goal of benefiting all Master Brewers membership. There are three ways to apply:
- As a National Committee
- As a District, submitted through the BOG rep
- As an individual member
District Dashboard - this new tool is coming for District Officers to access info for their own districts and make data-driven decisions. In accordance with the MBAA Privacy Policy, officers can more easily access our roster in real time.
For those Districts who use HQ for event registration, we can monitor member engagement and attendance per event.
Call for Nominations
Nominations are officially open for the 2nd VP and are open through March 1, 2024. Please read the Candidate Qualification Targets before nominating someone. The position of 2nd Vice President is rotational - moving up to 1st Vice President, President, then Immediate Past President (4-year commitment).
