Hi everybody, our brewery is currently looking into using chiber by chinova bioworks as a way to ensure micro stability and increase shelf life in our products. Does anybody have any experience or thoughts on the product?  We generally have a clean facility contamination wise, which is confirmed through continuous lab testing. However, we want to have the highest shelf life possible, which is why we are looking into chiber.

    Hi there,

Chiber is not approved in all Markets at the moment. Here in Europe it hasn't been approved yet but I think a few Breweries are monitoring its approval. If you contact Chinova Bioworks directly they will send you the Challenge tests they have completed already with NA Beer. It remains to be studied in depth for more niche Beer Styles. My own thoughts on it would be to engage a Third Party to advise you on your labelling before using it and to ask other MBAA members for their inputs here.

    Hello,

We have used Chiber previously and I would like to raise a few concerns to you. Chiber is a coagulant and and will bind yeast, protein, other large molecules into clumps. You have to be careful to allow your beverage and chiber mixture to sit in the tank long enough that so that this bound material can be removed from the bottom without ending up in kegs or cans. They say to wait 24 hours but that was not long enough in my experience. Regardless of this, the finining action of chiber will dramatically alter the appearance of your beverage if it is hazy.

I also found it to be quiet expensive. The product added an additional ten dollars per barrel to our beverages. With all that being said, it has been shown to be effective against a large range of microbial life.

    Best Regards,

    Tim
