When:  Jul 10, 2025 from 17:00 to 19:00 (CT)

THE ARCHAELOGY OF BEER

Uncovering the history of the local beer culture from the 1800s

In the vast area that is now Theodore Wirth Regional Park, where the former Village of Golden Valley met Minneapolis, was once the Germania Brewery, whose remains were recently discovered just under the park’s lawn. At the same time, the John Orth Brewery was across the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. Its remains, now under a parking lot, were also recently studied. In 1890, these two long-gone breweries merged with two others to form the Minneapolis Brewing Company, better known today as Grain Belt.

In 2010, an archaeological investigation was commissioned by the Minneapolis Park Board to uncover the hidden and largely forgotten history of these breweries. This story will be presented by local historian and archaeologist Michelle M. Terrell, Ph.D. of Two Pines Resource Group.

In addition, this event will serve as a membership drive for our district. Any non-members who attend will be entered into a raffle for a year of free membership (three winners to be selected)! Also, I would like to remind you all of the MBAA Referral program - you and a friend save 20% on your annual memberships when following the directions in the link.

$5 gets you two beers and an interesting story to take with you.
