District Philadelphia is proud to welcome our colleagues to the City of Brotherly Love for the Craft Brewers Conference this year!
In preparation for a kick-off MBAA National event at CBC (more information coming soon), you are invited to collaborate across the district and brew a special Philly lager (or is it Philly special lager...) to share at CBC.
Join us on Friday February 20th for a chapter meeting / collaboration brew day at Bonesaw Brewing Co. in Glassboro, NJ, and be a part of the production of a Philly Rye Lager made with Liscio's rolls!
A great sandwich starts with great bread, and in Philly, that means Liscio's Bakery. Their rolls are a regional staple, soft inside, sturdy outside, and built for classic hoagies, cheesesteaks, and roast pork with broccoli rabe. In this case...for mashing into a rye lager.
Through a collaboration with Liscio's, we'll take 100lbs of stale old bread (Italian rolls and rye), give it a toast, and throw it in the mash...with a few enzymes...turning food waste into liquid gold. Worried about a stuck mash? Come see Bonesaw's mash press in action!
In lieu of a formal presentation...
- See Bonesaw's mash press LIVE and discuss with Brewmaster AJ Stoll (see slides from presentation in February 2025)
- Chat enzymes with experts from Novonesis
- Chat malt with experts from Malteurop
- Meet James Liscio, 2nd generation Philly baker
- Eat Cheesesteaks and Tomato Pies!
Schedule:
10:00am arrival / mash-in / bread-in
12:00 - Lunch (Liscio's cheeseteaks and tomato pies)
12:30 - Brief Chapter Business Meeting
1:00 - 4:00 Wrap up brew day; networking
We hope you will join us on this journey from loaf to lager!
