The USDA-NASS released its second barley yield/production estimate for the 2021 crop season. A summary from this report is posted to the AMBA website here.
The estimates are based upon survey data obtained reflecting conditions as of August 1, 2021. Total production for the 2021 crop year is estimated to be 106 million bushels. This is down over 8% from the July estimate and 36% from the previous year. If realized, this would be the lowest US production since 1900. Yields in all major barley growing states declined from July projections except North Dakota which remained at 38.0 bu/acre. This was the lowest average US yield since 1989.
